Maritime industry of Barbados and its contribution in recent years can never be ignored. This was the reaction of Donna Cadogan, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport after assessing and witnessing almost 1 million tones of domestic cargo passing through Barbados port.
She admitted this while participating in the opening of a regional workshop attended by senior maritime administrators and other fellow participants. She also said that maritime industry played an important role in shaping the economy of the country. To quote Donna at the Hilton Barbados Resort yesterday, ‘’ although its contribution is sometimes overlooked, the maritime industry plays a pivotal role in the sustainability of the global economy by efficiently transporting the goods and products we require for daily living’’.
