Smith, president and managing director Asia Pacific, Marriott International and Rajeev Menon, chief operating officer, Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China), Marriott International, arrived in Australia this week for an area visit following Marriott International’s recently completed acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The merger transaction has significantly increased Marriott’s distribution across Australia, bringing the hotel group’s total portfolio in the region to 30, including 15 hotels in operation and a further 15 in the pipeline.
Accompanied by Sean Hunt, recently appointed area vice president Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Marriott International, Craig S. Smith and Rajeev Manon visited a number of important pipeline properties that are under development, including W Brisbane, which is slated to open in December 2017, marking the re-entry of the brand into Australia.
Located on 300 George Street, the new build hotel will feature 305 guest rooms and 26 suites with views over the Brisbane River. Guests will also have access to three distinct restaurants and bars and indoor heated swimming pool.
