Though Marriott has been present in Maryland since 60 years, an expiring lease prompted this famous hotel chain to keep its option open and explore moving to different places. Arne Sorenson, the CEO and president of Marriott said that the authorities had glanced at many locations in the D.C. metro area but then they finally, they had decided to choose locations in Bethesda. He said that their future headquarters would be a major source of investment.
He also added that they hotel chain plans to develop into a strong economic reward for the Montgomery County.
The new hotel would be home to over 3,500 employees and it would cover an extensive space measuring about 7,00,000 square feet of leased office space. Marriott plans to choose a final site of the hotel in the initial half of 2017. It has decided to occupy the new office prior to the expiration of their present lease in the latter part of the year 2022.
Apart from the office space, the hotel would also comprise more than 200 hotel rooms that would be built on the site.
In 2015, Marriott had been responsible for the creation of 10,4000 jobs in Maryland that included its franchised properties, Marriott-managed hotels and corporate offices.
