The collaboration will further enhance Marriott International’s global portfolio of brands and its hospitality expertise to bring in a revolutionary travel experience.
Alibaba’s digital retail leadership and its role as a gateway for international brands reaching over to 500 million mobile monthly active users across its platform will also be leveraged.
The joint venture will further operate the Marriott International’s Chinese-language digital channels including the Chinese language version of Marriot.com and Starwoodhotels.com , Marriott Mobile App and SPG App as well as the Marriott storefronts on Fliggy, Alibaba’s travel service platform.
Alibaba’s customer base will also be marketed providing a link between Marriott’s loyalty programs and Alibaba’s loyalty program. Marriot hotels will be supported with content, programs and promotions for the Chinese traveller.
There will be seamless, integrated, personalized and convenient travel solutions offered by this venture that will connect the travellers directly to Marriott’s portfolio of international hotel brands.
It is expected that China’s travellers are expected to take an estimated 700 million trips within the next five years.
Daniel Zhang, chief executive, Alibaba Group said that the proud venture will combine the large scale consumer base providing a leading-edge technology and consumer insights with unparalleled hospitality expertise.
The Chinese travellers will get an elevated and redefined travel experience. The venture will benefit Marrriott’s owners and franchisees on a global scale resulting in capturing a greater share of the growing Chinese travel market and lower distribution costs.
Arne Sorenson, president, Marriott International said that this venture will introduce Marriott worldwide to a growing traveling class. This partnership allows the hospitality expertise to be paired with Alibaba’s digital travel platform, retail expertise and digital payment platform, Alipay.
