Maryland tourists spend more in the state last year

Published on : Saturday, November 9, 2019

The number of tourists visiting Maryland last year might have dropped to some extent, but the Economic Impact of Tourism in Maryland report says that they spent more compared to that in 2017.

The report was announced Wednesday at the annual Maryland Tourism and Travel Summit.

According to the report, visitors in Maryland spent more than $18 billion last year, going up by 2.1% from the year before.

Overall visitation declined from 42.5 million to 41.9 million in 2018, but the decrease was counterbalanced by increases in visitor per-trip spending.

The report said that most of Maryland’s visitors came by car. The Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport witnessed a record 27.2 million passengers last year.
