The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) is urging the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to engage private sector of the tourism industry to make safety training a priority.
MATTA President Datuk Tan Kok Liang said, “We think that Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, Chairman of NIOSH should engage directly with tourism industry leaders and agencies such as MATTA. As a national institute, NIOSH should not limit itself to making arms-length statements to the press but should take proactive and practical steps to engage various industries.”
“MATTA has already conducted different safety training programmes over the years especially in relation to driver training and emergency response. However, we are more than happy to work with NIOSH to further improve in the area of safety in the workplace,” concluded Tan.
There has been no attempt by NIOSH to engage MATTA over the last few years.
