The event was aimed to upgrade the visibility of the island nation of Mauritius as a popular tourism destination and India, mainly by making efforts to enable the Indian travel personnel to interact with the various DMC (destination management companies), activity companies and hoteliers.
Mr. Vivek Anand, Country Manager, MTPA India asserted that it has witnessed an amazing response from the travel trade partners.
Speaking at the recent roadshow event in a renowned city hotel in Kolkata, he added that the city has immense potential as one of the key source markets for Mauritius. He said that the country is scheduled to be a spectator to certain destination weddings from Kolkata during August 2017. He expects the growth in Indian tourist arrivals in Mauritius to be around 20% this year, taking the figures to 100,000.
Mr. Anand claimed that Mauritius lures a large number of Indian tourists since nearly 65% of the Mauritian populace is of Indian origin. Moreover, the fact that Mauritius is home to the second best air quality in the world, according to the WHO (World Health Organization) statistics also drives an increasing number of travellers from the Asia-Pacific region, especially India and China.
He went on to add that the island country has also started finding favor as an emerging wedding tourism destination among Indian tourists.
While describing the tagline ‘Mauritius – It’s a pleasure’ said that the country boasts of amazing activities for adventure freaks including sky diving, seakarting, bungee jumping, submarine rides, water subscooter rides, ziplining, quad biking, golfing and several other activities like offering tourists an experience of interacting with the lions. In addition, Mauritius is a fascinating golf destination drawing hordes of golf-lovers to this locale.
This apart, the nation is also a home to the oldest race course in the southern hemisphere.
So, he concluded that the combination of the excellent Indian cuisines available in the region, coupled with interesting activities and a vibrant nightlife make it a popular destination for Indian globetrotters. And, he mentioned, it is also an important MICE destination being well-equipped with excellent convention centres and hotels suited for all the requirements of business travellers.
The Indian film producers too, he stated have been taking an interest in Mauritius for shooting Bollywood movies.
Mr. Robin Ramhit, destination marketing executive, MTPA said that Mauritius has a film rebate scheme of nearly 33 to 45% for Indian film producers.
