The evening of 1 June saw the glamour of the subcontinent descend upon Knightsbridge, with the Mayfair Times Indian Summer Party held in the Ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The event was hosted by Mayfair Times owner and Editor-in-Chief Selma Day and co-hosted by Suhel Seth, Guest Editor for June’s Indian Edition of the Mayfair Times.
“It is a pleasure to host the second iteration of the Indian Summer Party, an event that is fast becoming a highlight of the Mayfair social calendar,” said Selma Day. “The Indians of Mayfair, whether long term expats or frequent tourists, play an increasingly prominent role in London life, bringing their own unique brand of vibrancy to this little corner of West London.’
The Mayfair Times Indian Edition celebrates the unique contribution that Indians have made to life in Mayfair. These range across business and entrepreneurship, fashion, the media, gastronomy and the arts. This year, the front cover featured Karan A Chanana, Chairman of the Amira Group, a global producer and exporter of speciality rice and the first Indian food products company to list on the New York Stock Exchange.
The evening was an extravagant affair, befitting the glamorous occasion, with canapés and champagne provided by Gymkhana. Guests included Karan A Chanana; Vijay Mallya; Sanjay Hinduja; Prince Rostislav Romanov; cricketer Sajid Mahmood; BBC presenter, Andrew Graham Dixon; CNBC presenter, Seema Mody; Tatler Fashion Director, Deep Kailey; CEO of Diversity UK, Lopa Patel; Managing Director of Curzon PR, Farzana Baduel and the artist Anisha Burman.
Elephant Family, a charity that is the UK’s biggest funder for the endangered Asian elephants, brightened the event with bespoke tuk tuks outside the Mandarin Oriental, featuring designs by Mulberry and Sabyasachi amongst others.
