The Jet Airways flight 9W 202 initially took off from New Delhi on 8th November around 12:05 am local time and it was bound to reach Doha on 9th November, Wednesday. But after a while, one of the passengers needed medical assistance. The Boeing 737 aircraft was carrying around 141 passengers onboard.
The pilot of the jet had two options, either making an emergency landing at the nearby Karachi airport or turning the jet back to New Delhi airport. Keeping in mind the standard operating procedure, the pilot decided to land the jet at the nearby runway in Pakistan’s Karachi.
The pilot managed to make a safe landing at the Karachi airport around 1:57 am local time on Tuesday, 8th November.
Despite of the growing dispute between India and Pakistan, the Karachi Air Traffic Control cooperated with the flight crew and also informed Delhi Air Traffic Control about the situation.
Regardless of of all the efforts, the passenger was declared to be dead by the medical officials at a hospital.
The emergency situation forced the airline crew to turn the flight and return to New Delhi with the body of the passenger.
Following the standard operating procedures, the airline was making arrangements to hand over the body of the deceased passenger to the authorities.
In a formal statement the Jet Airways authorities expressed their condolences to the family members of the passenger.
The formal statement issued by the airline also said that they were also planning to re-accommodate the stranded passengers on alternative jets.
