The MICE industry has long been regarded as a driving force behind all industries. With the increasing number of international meetings, incentive travel, and professional exhibitions being held in Taiwan, it is obvious local MICE players are enjoying a boom. To match this rise, a corresponding pool of MICE talent is a must.
MEET TAIWAN has taken a proactive role by offering international certificate courses, hosting forums and competitions, and promoting industrial and academic collaborations to foster new-generation MICE talent to establish a solid foundation for future industry development.
International certification courses
MEET TAIWAN provides a comprehensive and professional MICE talent training program, offering more than 130 classes and on-the-job training courses, as well as a pre-career training program. People involved in the MICE industry are encouraged to gain international certifications, such as Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) and Certified Meeting Professional (CMP). Since 2012, 155 people in Taiwan have successfully obtained CEMs and 31 with CMPs for a total that ranks among Asia’s top 3 in MICE certifications. In 2017, Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) was introduced by the Society for Incentive Travel Excellence (SITE) and conducted in Taiwan for the first time, creating even more opportunities for industry people to advance their skills. To date, already 25 people applied and obtained the CIS, resulting in a 100% pass rate.
Industrial and academic collaborations
In addition to hands-on training, MEET TAIWAN also hosts matchmaking sessions where industry professionals and rising talents can meet potential employers. Since 2014, matchmaking sessions have taken place annually, offering hundreds of job vacancies, internship opportunities, and consultations. Through training and matchmaking events, MEET TAIWAN continues to foster MICE talent, enabling more advancements in the local MICE industry.
MICE destination marketing contests
MEET TAIWAN has hosted the annual MICE Destination Marketing Contest since 2012, helping MICE-related college majors to practice and to compete with counterparts from the Asia Pacific region. For the competition, students must propose a destination marketing plan for their chosen city and showcase their ideas at an actual onsite exhibition booth. Students are able to benefit from cross-cultural exchanges and gain practical experience. In the 2017 contest, there were 17 teams from 6 countries, including Indonesia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore, attracting more than 2,500 visitors.
As MEET TAIWAN works relentlessly to expand resources and connect Taiwan to the global MICE network, the fostering of local talent to improve the quality and quantity of staff for the meeting and event industry in Taiwan will soon advance to the next level, making Taiwan an imposing player in the global arena!
