The meetings industry of Lima was able to generate at least US$2 billion in terms of revenue over the last five years according to Carlos Canales who is the President of Lima Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Canales has also mentioned that this sector has witnessed a two-digit annual growth thereby collecting a massive expansion of more than 90% during the last four years.
The officer also emphasized on the need for all the sectors to consolidate their efforts towards strengthening this nation as one of the leading business tourism destinations of the world. He stated that the average business tourist ends up spending five times more per day as compared to traditional tourists who are keen for travelling on a leisurely vacation.
He further asserted that the top international events are crucial for the nation.
Speaking on this issue he highlighted the fact that Lima had conducted the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and also the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in October 2015.
In addition, Peru was also the venue of the 2016 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum Summit.
