Meetings Mean Business Canada Continues its Outreach in Halifax and Fredericton

 The Meetings Mean Business Canada Board is set to continue its mission to advocate for the power of face-to-face meetings by travelling across Canada to connect with Business Events Industry Leaders.

The 2018 MMB Canada Chair, and the SVP Business Development & Industry Partnerships at Freeman Audio Visual Canada, Heidi Welker met with Carrie Cussons President and CEO, Events East Group and the Business Events community in Halifax for a luncheon in the Halifax Convention Centre on Wednesday, April 25^th, to discuss the coalition’s growing importance.

A coalition meeting was also held in Fredericton on Thursday, April 26^th. The 2-hour meeting was hosted by Cathy Pugh, General Manager of the Fredericton Convention Centre and brought together Business Events stakeholders in the Fredericton area and leaders from New Brunswick.

Speaking about the coalition meetings in Halifax and Fredericton, current chair Heidi Welker said, “It is very clear that Halifax and Fredericton are very passionate about business events and the importance of the economic and social value of face-to-face meetings in their cities.  We look forward to continued engagement towards a proactive advocacy movement.”

Since the coalition relaunched its rebrand from BEICC to MMBC in January 2017. MMB Canada has raised over $100,000 of initial funding and counts 115 industry executive leaders amongst its supporters to date.

Heidi Welker, 2018 Chair of MMB Canada and her fellow board members have set out the following goals for 2018:

• We want to continue the momentum set out last year;
• We want to be the advocacy voice/platform for the Business Events Industry in Canada;
• We want to align our efforts and work in tandem with TIAC (our secretariat);
• We want to continue growing our coalition through meetings like this.  And then provide deliverable updates to all of you;
• We have formed 3 committees to research and recommend:
  • A sustainable financial model (chaired by Heidi Welker)
  • Curation of unified data for our industry. (co-chaired by Clark Grue and Reggie Clark)
  • Executing a plan to tell our Story (co-chaired by Joe Glionna and Debbie van der Beek)
• Lastly, we also need to have a board of directors’ succession plan that will include national representation.
