Dunedin is the very first port of New Zealand that had been visited by the Ovation of the Seas cruise vessel that is worth nearly about $1.4 billion. This is the largest ever cruise ship that has been arriving to New Zealand and it has been carrying as much as 4,905 passengers.
Louise van de Vlierd who is the visitor centre manager of Dunedia i-Site said that the cancellation of the visit of this mega cruise ship is really “very disappointing”.
He has also added that a great deal of work has been into preparing the cruise ship for the visit to the region of Dunedin. But then, the weather is something that one cannot really control as per one’s will.
The owner of this cruise ship have cited “adverse weather conditions forecast in the SW area of New Zealand” as one of the main reasons for the cancellation of the visit of the Ovation of the Seas.
It is said that this cruise ship would be visiting Milford Sound tomorrow as it had been originally planned. However, then it would be spending a day at the sea prior to heading off towards Wellington.
Thursday would still a cruise ship day.
But then, a cruise ship named ‘Radiance of the Seas’ would be approaching the city from the north. Still, it is expected that it would visit Dunedin.
