For the second year in a row Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) has been recognised for its significant contribution to tourism at the Victorian Tourism Awards, held at MCEC last night.
MCEC received top honours with the 2013 William Angliss Institute Award for Business Tourism and will go on to represent Victoria at the Qantas 2013 Australian Tourism Awards in Sydney on 7 February 2014.
“This last year has been one of major achievements for MCEC and we are delighted with the recognition that this prestigious award represents,” said MCEC’s Chief Executive, Peter King.
“I want to thank our fantastic team who deliver wonderful events for our customers that generate millions of dollars of economic benefits to the State. We are leading the world in the delivery of business events.”
The venue celebrated a record-breaking 2012/13 financial year, receiving an estimated 1.4 million visitors at more than 1100 events, profiling Melbourne as a destination through MCEC’s architecture, innovation, service and green practices.
“I also want to thank our key partners who form part of ‘Team Melbourne’ – together we drive and promote tourism and the business events industry for the State. We also showcase Victorian produce every day through our regional food and wine suppliers.”MCEC plays a leadership role within industry, encouraging yield and dispersal of their visitors throughout the city and regional Victoria by providing visitor information and collaborating with key tourism organisations.
The last 12 months has seen MCEC receive a number of accolades including Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre at the World Travel Awards, National Meetings and Events Australia Awards – Business Development Person of the Year and Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards.
The Victorian Tourism Awards recognise and reward organisations that contribute excellence, innovation and commitment to the Victorian tourism industry.
