Along with other companies, Meliá Hotels International has joined the Corporate Volunteer project led by the EXIT Foundation to promote the employability of young people at risk of social and labour exclusion through coaching and mentoring. On the #CoachExit project, participants receive guidance from Meliá volunteers to help them find the motivation to continue with their studies, as well as career guidance within the reality of a company and also increasing their self-esteem.
In this edition of #CoachExit held in May in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), 25 young people aged from 16 to 21 with low education levels took part. The project has enabled Company volunteers to represent the values of the Company and increase the confidence of the participants.
The result of the experience and professionalism of the Exit Foundation, the methodology has allowed 74% of the participants to pass the course and 85% state that they are certain about what training they are going to do to ensure they have a job in the future.
For Meliá, this project is becoming more important bearing in mind the need of young people to find a practical sense to the academic training they receive. It is an important means of motivating young people to further their education and receive more training. Youth employability is one of the pillars of the Company’s CSR model, and Meliá aims to help develop the talents of young people, with special attention to those at risk of exclusion, improving their access to the labour market through career guidance, sharing knowledge, and providing them with professional experiences in real working environments in the hotel industry.
Participation in such projects also helps remove barriers and raise opportunities for cooperation between companies and associations, as high social impact objectives are shared by all the companies taking part.
Supported by senior management, numerous members of the Meliá team have participated in the project, sharing the objective of injecting enthusiasm into young people and encouraging them to go further in their education and training. Volunteers have included team members from Corporate and Regional Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility, Hotel Management, GEX, Kitchen teams, Activities teams, Restaurants, Housekeeping, Reception.
