The tourism sector, both in terms of business and leisure, serves as big factors for economic growth. The governments in the MICE region are supporting the industry by expanding and improving airport capacity and amenities, encouraging investments in private sector, developing new attractions and increasing international promotional campaigns.
The MICE industry thrives on the support of the tourism sector and its subsidiaries, especially the robust development of midscale hotel properties. These two industries are working closely for supporting each other for presenting best value proposition for events and delegates. Case in point is Dubai, which has invested and strengthened its offerings for emerging as a leading business hub.
Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has led the development of the MICE sector in the region by establishing itself as the Middle East’s principal venue in terms of the size, diversity of events and the economic impact generated through its events. The MICE sector’s growth in the region will also rely on overall health of the global economy. New players in this sector will have to build on their USPs for establishing themselves as important business destinations. However, governments are advantageously investing in the tourism industry, which is already an immense boost to the sector.
DWTC is aimed on driving economic growth through knowledge and innovation in sync with UAE Vision 2021. Events such as GITEX Technology Week and the GITEX Global Startup Movement that connected over 400 start-ups and 1,000 entrepreneurs are bringing this region to the forefront of industries, appealing to today’s millennials and leaders of tomorrow. The 2017 calendar is filled with many exciting events and programmes along with mega shows which are vital for development of this region.
