Two men in their 30’s and a woman in her 50’s were found dead at a Mission Beach that is located at a distance of nearly 7 kilometres away from the normal beach landing point just a while after 3 p.m. on Friday. Queensland police said that the accident might have been a consequence of parachute failures when the skydivers collided after they jumped from the plane.
Police then said in a statement that initial investigations indicated that a solo skydiver might have collided with tandem skydivers in mid-air with their parachutes failing to be deployed appropriately.
They then said that the investigators and other agencies continued to remain at three scene.
Wayne Kimberley who is a Cassowary shire councilor representing the Mission Beach area for over a decade mentioned that it is truly a fatal incident for the community as well as for the regional tourism sector. Kimberley said that from the council’s perspective they would be offering the utmost support and make attempts to investigate what had actually occurred.
He went on to add that they lay an immense emphasis on tourism industry particularly at Mission Beach and this incident is a great blow to the regional tourism sector.
