From January to August, there has been a 10% increase in foreign tourists in Slovenia, with a large portion coming from the GCC region. The number of tourists from the Middle Eastern countries is on the rise. Tourists from Austria, Italy and Germany constitute a significant part of the traditional Slovenian tourism market, according to Statistical Office Republic of Slovenia (SORS). To quote Zdravko Počivalšek, Minister of Economic Development and Technology, “We are extremely pleased to showcase a green, active and healthy Slovenia to the world. Recent results showing an increase in the number of international arrivals are a testimonial to our recent initiatives and promotional efforts including our first ever Ministerial Trade Development Mission and Tourism workshop that took place in Dubai this September. Additionally, being declared as the World’s First Green Country, Slovenia continues to grow as an attractive destination for travelers and nature enthusiasts from around the world.”
The opening of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STB) with its representative office in Dubai, STB is conducting lots of promotional campaigns and activities to create awareness about Slovenia as a tourist spot. It has taken part in Arabian Travel Market (ATM) and the Riyadh Travel Fair, lot of travel agent workshops and seminars, and also a Ministerial Trade Development Mission and Tourism workshop. It also took part in a tourism roadshow of travel agent workshops and will be participating in a roadshow again in November. A lot of promotional campaigns have been launched for Middle East travelers.
In addition to being declared the World’s First Green Country, Slovenia is a world leader in sustainable development. Its capital Ljubljana has been awarded 2016 European Green Capital. This year, Slovenia will play host to Global Green Destinations Day. It’s also the 10th safest country in the world with healthy lifestyle.
