It implies that the number of sea arrivals in Spain about 8,385 is likely to surpass Greece that boasts of nearly 11,713 people.
This transition might be taking place since the migrants find the Spanish route safer.
Earlier this week, according to the footage, migrants were seen arriving by dinghy on a certain beach in Cadiz, stunning beachgoers and tourists. The IOM stated that 11,849 people had arrived in Spain till date as compared to 13,246 who had all arrived last year.
Joel Millman who is a senior spokesman of IOM said that the change is on account of the fact that the route to Spain is actually one of the safest, and it passes through Morocco. He added that Spain is likely to overtake Greece this years with regards to migrant arrivals.
Most of the people choosing the longer route to Europe are from west African nations like Ivory Coast, Guinea, Gambia and Senegal.
However, Spain is far behind Italy that had received 96,861 people till 9th August, as per the IOM. On Thursday, coastguards in southern Spain said that 10 men from the sub-Saharan Africa had been rescued off Tarifa.
The migrants were mainly minors in their teens and they did not have any ID on them and were believed to be from Morocco, as per the local police personnel.
They would all be transferred to the migrant reception centres and here they would be able to apply for asylum in Spain.
