According to data provided by the Milan Chamber of Commerce the hotel rooms in the city registered between 60 and 70% occupancy in the first three months of 2016, a higher percentage than in Rome, Florence and Venice but also in Paris, Moscow and Beijing.
Consequently, a million and a half people stayed in Milan, surpassing even last year’s record-breaking figures. The business tourism sector is strong and a further leisure component is increasingly added to business trips Milan with visitors staying over the weekend to enjoy all the possibilities that the city offers both from a cultural perspective and for specific events.
The areas that have registered the highest figures so far are Garibaldi-Central-Buenos Aires (+8, 6%) followed by the City Centre and the West-Rho Fiera (both + 4%).
The positive trend precedes what is expected to be Milan’s busiest period in 2016 with the upcoming XXI Triennial that opens on April 2nd, the Salone del Mobile – Furniture Show which opens on April 12th and the final of the Champions League on May 28th that will attract more visitors who want to experience these not-to-be-missed events in Milan.
