Mip Cancun Closes With A 70% Increase In Participation Welcomes 560 Content Executives From 46

reed-travel-exhibitionsMIP Cancun drew to a close November 17, registering a 70% increase in attendance, with 560 TV executives representing 387 companies from 46 countries coming together for the third annual Latin American TV Content Market and Summit. Dates for the next edition of MIP Cancun are confirmed for November 15-17, 2017.

 

 

Organised by Reed MIDEM, MIP Cancun is the industry’s first and only international content market exclusively focused on programming for the Latin America and US Hispanic television and digital media industry. The 2016 Summit ran from Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 November at the Grand Fiesta Americana Hotel in the Mexican resort of Cancun.

 

 

For the 2016 edition, more than 3,700 meetings between content distributors and buyers were scheduled over three days during MIP Cancun’s signature One-to-One Matchmaking Marketplace.

 

 

The conference programme expanded with the inaugural Creative and Digital Minds Summit, featuring discussions on the digital revolution in the Latin American and US Hispanic markets and sessions with heads of programming and content development, creators and showrunners.

 
The line-up of keynotes included Manuel Abud, President and CEO of Azteca America; Jon Zepp, the Head of Content Partnerships at YouTube Americas; and Cris Abrego, Chairman of Endemol Shine Americas and CEO of Endemol Shine North America.

 

 

The “View from the Top” superpanel featured Joshua Mintz, deputy to the President of TV Azteca; Laurens Drillich, President of Endemol Shine Latino; Dario Turovelzki, Head of Programming at Telefe; Anna Gordon, Executive VP and Managing Director for Latin America at BBC Worldwide; and Eduardo Lebrija, Senior VP and General Director for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean at Viacom International Media Networks.

 

 

MIP Cancun 2016 also included a rich programme of networking events, exclusive screenings by Fox Networks Group Content Distribution, Globo, ITV Inter Medya, Signal Media and panels on subjects such as financing and co-productions, and for the first time welcomed producer finalist in the MIPFormats Pitch Latin America. The program was presented in partnership with ITV Inter Medya, TV Azteca Internacional, ProMexico, Feeling China Pavilion, Globo, The Kitchen, ATV and NALIP, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers.

 

 

“This marketplace was originally established to allow content owners to have one-to-one meetings with Latin American TV buyers, but has expanded to include a broader cross section of programming, production and digital executives in this region. We doubled attendance in the second year and we’ve grown now by more than 70% to include all the major channels in the region while maintaining the intimate format which MIP Cancun participants really love,” said Ted Baracos, Director of Market Development at Reed MIDEM, which runs MIP Cancun.

 

 

Buyers and sellers alike were upbeat in their assessment of MIP Cancun 2016. “This is my third year at MIP Cancun. For Applicaster, this is by far the most productive market we attend to do business in Latin America,” said Laura Tapias, Director General of Applicaster, Inc.

 

 

“As a first-timer at MIP Cancun, it was a great opportunity to meet with TV channels that I don’t meet at other markets,” noted Luciana Nogueira, Sales Director Latin America, Endemol Shine International.

 

 

“An exceptional event where I am discovering content I don’t find anywhere else. I‘m definitely back next year!” enthused Fernando Pelegio, Director of Artistic and Creation Planning.
