A sustainable tourism campaign was launched by Anne Christine Dunn, the reigning Miss Pacific Islands on 22nd March for the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO). Dunn is working with SPTO for promoting 2017 International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development.
To quote Dunn, “Sustainable tourism for me is about preserving and sharing our unique South Pacific islands and cultures with the world. It is about being responsible as hosts and visitors to our beautiful yet fragile island ecosystems.” According to SPTO CEO Christopher Cocker, South Pacific culture, environment and people are its greatest tourism assets and it needs to be protected for its sustainability.
Dunn joined this initiative for promotion of sustainable and responsible tourism not just for Fiji but the entire Pacific region. This global campaign seeks people in the Pacific and travelers globally to share their thoughts on sustainable tourism via photos, videos, stories and ideas on social media like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtags #travelenjoyrespect and #SouthPacificIslands. The winner will also get to visit the Pacific and will be announced on May 20 at the South Pacific Tourism Exchange in Sydney.
