In order to boost winter tourism Mongolia will be holding a horse festival in an effort to pass on the horse culture to future generations.
Starting from Friday the annual “Horses of Mongolian Steppe” festival will be held for the fifth year in eastern Khentii province.
The event is co-organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Governor’s Office of Khentii Province and the event will feature several activities like the horse racing and lasso competition.
In terms of horse population Mongolia is world renowned as per the National Statistical Office of Mongolia, there were over 66.2 million livestock animals in Mongolia as of the end of 2017, Among these six percent were horses.
Instead of rising horses the Mongolian herdsmen choose to ride motorcycles and for live stock animals instead of rising horses. This makes the preservation of horse-riding culture a necessity.
