Chris Grayling, transport secretary said that this agreement would offer great opportunities to boost tourism, trade and consequently jobs following Britain’s decision to leave the European Union.
According to this new deal, the number of direct flights would be increased from 10 to 100 in both directions.
Alongside that, the restrictions of cargo flights would also be completely lifted.
Apart from that, a second rule that permits only six airports in each nation to offer direct flights between UK and China would also be lifted. The new rule would provide for a large number of direct flights between UK and China thereby offering travellers access to more Chinese destinations.
Mr. Grayling said that this is great news for UK since strong connections b with growing markets like China would prove to be beneficial for the people of UK if they aim to be strong competitors on the global economic stage.
He added that a large number of Chinese visitors throng the UK every year and they end up spending quite a generous amount of money here.
Therefore, he feels that increasing the number of flights between these two nations would offer more opportunities for the growth of the businesses of UK as well as China. This would give rise to more number of jobs, increased trade and commerce thereby positively impacting the economy.
About 2,70,000 Chinese visitors had visited UK in the year 2015. This is an increase of about 46% from the previous year.
Having said that, not many Chinese visitors come to Britain. However, the overall spending of Chinese in this part of the world has increased by 18%.
