The Association of Tourism and Travel Agencies (Avit) of Arequipa said on Wednesday that domestic tourism accounts for US$105 million of total revenue while the other US$40 million was generated from foreign visitors.
Eddy Carpio, head of Avit, said that common travel expenses include accommodation, tours, food and transport.
The most popular tourist attractions are the 400-year-old Santa Catalina Monastery and the Colca Valley, the deepest canyon in the world and the home of the condor.
Bolstered by events like the recent 22nd International Tourism Fair, the number of visitors to the “White City” is expected to increase by over seven per cent this year.
