Tourist arrivalsDomestic and foreign tourist arrivals in Arequipa have earned the southern Peruvian region more than US$145 million so far this year, according to a local tourism official.

The Association of Tourism and Travel Agencies (Avit) of Arequipa said on Wednesday that domestic tourism accounts for US$105 million of total revenue while the other US$40 million was generated from foreign visitors.

Eddy Carpio, head of Avit, said that common travel expenses include accommodation, tours, food and transport.

The most popular tourist attractions are the 400-year-old Santa Catalina Monastery and the Colca Valley, the deepest canyon in the world and the home of the condor.
