The 18th edition of the Aeroflot Open 2020, an international chess festival will be held on 18-28 February at the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow. It is sponsored by the Russia’s flagship airline and the competition is one of the longest established and popular in the world.
It will bring together an impressive line-up of participants.
Based on the score of the participants in an initial rounds nine rounds and the festival will be divided into three tournaments ( A, B and C).
Those who qualify for the main tournament need to achieve more than 2,549 points.
A children’s tournament named in honor of Anatoly Karpov will be held alongside the festival’s three tournaments.
There will be more than 80 chess players from 21 countries who will play in the main tournament that will take place on 19 till 27 February.
Military veterans, women and children who score highest in their category will receive special prizes.
Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Savelive said that for many years Aeroflot has been committed to cultivate successful sporting events which includes promoting chess within Russia and around the world. Nations come together in the Aeroflot Open festival for education and cultural exchange. The younger participants will get a chance to break into the global chess scene.
For them it was a brilliant opportunity to support the next generation of chess players.
The festival is organised by Aeroflot in partnership with the Russian Chess Federation and the Association of Chess Federations.
