A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Malaysia and the Maldives on cooperation in culture, arts and heritage, in conjunction with the island nation’s Independence Day. The agreement was signed by Tourism and Culture Ministry secretary-general Ab. Ghaffar A. Tambi and Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia Mohamed Fahmy Hassan.
The signing ceremony was held at the Malaysia Tourism Centre and was witnessed by the senior officials of the ministry and Maldives embassy staff. Besides being Islamic countries, both Malaysia and the Maldives have similarities in culture and arts.
The signing of the MoU promises bilateral relations to be enhanced through cooperation in culture, arts and heritage. The principles of mutual respect and benefit, sovereignty and reciprocity would also be strengthened. Such cooperation would also provide opportunities for people of both countries to learn about each other’s distinctive culture and tradition.
