The popular British singer-songwriter Sami Yusuf was in Oman last week to shoot the music video for his upcoming album. The trip was organized by the Ministry of Tourism, which hosted the entire team with the aim to promote the Sultanate’s natural beauty and authentic landscapes beauty through the music video.
The accomplished musician, who shot to fame with his debut album – Al-Muallim, spent a couple of days exploring the many diverse attractions in Oman from wandering through the timeless souq in Nizwa, shooting in the majestic Hajar Mountains in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, before heading to the vast desert in Bidiya and finally ending the trip with Ras Al Jinz and Sur.
This musical project is very dear to Sami Yusuf as it concerns the environment nature and its protection.
Speaking about coming to Oman to shoot the video, Sami Yusuf said, “As a lover of nature, tradition and the environment, it has always been a dream of mine to work on a project that incorporates all those subjects in a music video. I would like to thank Oman’s Ministry of Tourism for giving me the opportunity to carry out this dream.”
He further added, “As we witness the unbelievable destruction of nature all around us—the like of which our forefathers could never have imagined—it is our collective responsibility to address and confront the causes head-on before it is too late. Nature was to primordial man what the holy scriptures are for Muslims, Christians or Jews. In traditional times, nature was considered Sacred and not merely an ‘it’ to be dominated as is the case in modern times. It is my hope that through this initiative we remind people of the celestial beauty and sanctity of nature. To this effect, Oman is a beacon of hope for the world as it strives to preserve its natural beauty (the likes of which I have never seen before) and to aim for an eco-friendly approach and lifestyle which is to be applauded. It has been an honour for me to have worked in this noble project and I am positive people will love what they see when it is launched.”
Partnering with the Ministry of Tourism in this initiative was Oman Air who managed the air travel for the entire team and Elite Travel & Tourism who exclusively managed the ground handling and transport, along with the travel itinerary for the filming. The on-ground shooting and filming support was rendered by Akkasa Media Production comprising an all-Omani team.
The Ministry of Tourism joined hands with Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN), the Sultanate’s master developer of urban and mixed-use projects, to offer its hospitality to Yusuf during the trip. The singer and his team stayed in the luxurious eco-friendly mountain-top Alila Jabal Akhdar Resort, as well as the world renowned nature reserve Ras Al Jinz Turtle Resort, where thousands of turtles come to lay their eggs each year.
