The first Myanmar International Tourism Exhibition will be held in Yangon from July 20-22 next year and is expected to attract over 100 international travel companies from more than 10 Asian countries.
The exhibition will be important for the travel industry to attract international tourists to Yangon.
This is the second time that an international tourism expo will be held in Myanmar. The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2014 was held in Nay Pyi Taw.
U Thet Lwin Toh, chairman of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association said, “We haven’t been able to hold an international tourism exhibition until now because we lacked organisers skilled in the meetings, incentives, conferences and events market. That is why we are welcoming private sector participation in this event.”
The expo in Myanmar will feature exhibitions on business travel, medical tourism, weddings and education tourism. Exhibitors will pay US$290 (K391,852) per square metre of space and $320 per square metre for a standard booth.
According to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, 2.27 million tourists visited Myanmar from January through August, which was an increase of 22 percent compared to the same period last year. The ministry expects 3.5 million tourists to visit Myanmar by the closing of this year.
