National Plan of Tourism 2018-2022 of Brazil approved by Decree

The Official Journal of the Union (DOU) of Brazil has published the Decree that approves the National Plan of Tourism 2018-2022.


The decree is signed by President Jair Bolsonaro and the Minister of Tourism, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, and defines the execution of the plan in partnership with states and municipalities, which should also develop similar plans and aligned with the policies of the Ministry of Tourism, with the objective of strengthen decentralized management and stimulate domestic tourism.


One of the goals set out in the document is to increase the annual influx of international visitors in the country from 6.6 million to 12 million tourists. Another overall goal is to increase revenue generated from current $ 6.5 billion to $ 19 billion over four years, redefining priority destinations for national and international promotion and visa facilitation efforts.


The strengthening of the Program for the Regionalization of Tourism (PRT) is also among the guidelines of the plan that also provides for the improvement of quality and competitiveness in the sector, as well as innovation and the promotion of sustainability.


Supporting planning in tourism, encouraging public safety solutions involving the sector is another guideline already aligned with the new structure of the Ministry, which now has a national secretariat of Inter-institutional Integration.


“We are already perfecting the legislation of the tourism sector, with a view to structuring the activity, and improving the business environment to stimulate new investments. The new PNT is enough to chancel these improvements and set growth goals in a new scenario,” said Tourism Minister Marcelo Álvaro Antônio.


While promoting the structuring of tourism with infrastructure and financing projects to the public and private sectors, the National Tourism Plan also includes responsible tourism through actions of accessibility and adoption of sustainable practices in the sector, stimulating the development through new tourism activities that incorporate aspects of production, culture and regional cuisine.
