The National Restaurant Association announced today that it has updated its ServSafe food safety training portal for the Air Force and Air National Guard. The online platform reflects the newly adopted Tri-Service Food Code and is now accessible to all Air Force and Air National Guard service members working in foodservice operations.
“The restaurant industry prides itself on serving those who serve, and the National Restaurant Association is pleased to provide our service members with ServSafe training and resources, the country’s leader in food safety education,” said Sherman Brown, Senior Vice President, ServSafe Business and Financial Strategy for the National Restaurant Association. “The newly updated portal allows for a streamlined experience by serving as a central hub for all materials and resources related to Air Force food safety training and practices.”
“We are excited to again be able to participate in the highest quality of industry training and certification for our Air Force Food Service professionals,” said Brigadier General Patrick Doherty, Director of Air Force Services. “Food Service is a core function in our war fighter sustainment and this training and certification provides life safety training and quality control skills to all of our operators.”
The NRA partnered with the Air Force in 2009 to provide standardized food safety training through its ServSafe program to all Air Force operations serving or selling food and beverages. Under the partnership, the Air Force and NRA created a portal for service members to easily access training and all Air Force specific materials.
The portal has been updated to reflect current needs, including the newly adopted military version of the 2013 FDA Food Code, which all services have accepted as the new standard. It provides online training, certification materials and proctored testing, and also assists operators, Unit Training Managers and students in tracking progress, managing ordering and tracking all hosted products.
In addition, individuals are trained and certified through the portal with their unique customer and student ID, allowing for simplified tracking, validation and reprinting of certification and records.
ServSafe is the nationally recognized and accredited food safety training program for all Air Force operations providing customers food and beverages.
