The total number of visitors to WA jumped by almost 13 per cent and their total spend hit $8.9 billion for the first time, according to the National Visitor Survey (NVS) results for the year ending September 2015.
The total visitor spend and visitor nights (68 million) both increased by more than 9 per cent compared to the year ending September 2014.
The research reveals that WA’s intrastate visitation remains strong, with day-trip spending up by one-third alongside increases in intrastate overnight visitors and spend.
Although interstate visitor numbers and visitor nights rose by 15 and 13 per cent respectively, the NVS data shows that interstate visitors’ spending declined by almost 13 per cent.
The interstate holiday market experienced a 9 per cent fall compared to the year ending September 2014.
