Nazri: Animated characters as tourism ambassadors will boost tourist arrivals

PUTRAJAYA, 11 Ogos -- Maskot watak animasi popular Upin dan Ipin menghiburkan kanak-kanak semasa program Peneroka Felda pada Ekspresi Felda Negaraku Malaysia di Dataran Putrajaya baru-baru ini. Perbadanan Ekonomi Digital Malaysia (MDEC) menetapkan matlamatnya untuk menubuhkan Malaysia sebagai hab kreatif serantau bagi memupuk bakat dan industri dalam usaha memenuhi keperluan serantau dan global.
Industri kreatif Malaysia sudah mencapai tahap matang kerana ia mempunyai pemain globalnya sendiri antaranya ialah Les’ Copaque Sdn Bhd menerusi wajah ‘Upin & Ipin’, yang terkenal seluruh dunia sehingga ia menjadi duta Unicef Malaysia. --fotoBERNAMA (2017) HAK CIPTA TERPELIHARAAnimated characters ‘Upin and Ipin’ as Malaysian Tourism Ambassadors in many Asean nations would further boost visitor arrivals in the future as per Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz who is the Tourism and Culture Minister.

 

He feels that the acceptance of the animated characters by different age groups is relied on to capture the attention of tourists from different countries especially India and China, inspired by the move by intellectual property rights holders, Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd that is expected to extend its influence to the two locations the following year.

 

In fact these animated characters have already been capable of stealing the attention of the domestic tourists.

 

Therefore Upin and Ipin are believed to play a crucial role in motivating an increased number of people to continue visiting places of interest in the nation. Similar effects would be achieved in existing markets including Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia that would be used to lure potential tourists from other nations.

 

During the visit, Mohamed Nazri presented certificates of appointment for these animated characters Upin and Ipin.

 

These two unique animated characters represent the latest style of tourism ambassador appointed after many celebrities like singer Yunalis Mat Zara’ai, Datuk Jimmy Choo, prominent chef Datuk Ismail Ahmad and so on.

 

Mohamed Nazri has mentioned that this is actually the very first time that the ministry has appointed an animated character as a tourism ambassador.

 

The characters were so selected based on the optimistic impact Upin and Ipin exercised abroad.
