Nepal tired of wooing international tourists turns to its domestic segment

Nepal Tourism BoardNepal is focusing on internal tourism and has announced a new campaign called the “Travel Year” to attract domestic tourism. The country has yet to get over its impact from last year’s earthquake and subsequent blockades in the southern borders.



According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) the Travel Year will pay attention to the domestic tourism and cover the entire Nepali year 2073, beginning on April 13, which is part of the government’s program to bring up the International Tourism Year from 2017-18.



Since the number of foreign tourists who brought maximum revenue in Nepal has decreased after the earthquake focusing on internal tourism makes greater sense feels Deepak Raj Joshi, CEO of the NTB. This is the first time that this Himalayan country is focusing on its domestic market from international. In earlier occasions the focus was completely on the international market with Visit Nepal Year 1998 and Nepal tourism year 2011.
