The ceremony was attended by Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jeeban Bahadur Shahi.
The tourism minister along with Nepalese officials and charge de affairs of Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu Ahmad Phadil Ismail flew to Kula Lumpur in the airlines’s maiden flight.
Kuala Lumpur is Himalayan Airlines 3rd international destination after Doha, Qatar and Colombo, Sri Lanka. The airline will operate five flights a week on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday on Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur sector, it said.
Himalayan Airlines, a joint venture between China and Nepal, is the second airline to start the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur flights. The state-owned Nepal Airlines is currently operating three flights a week on the Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur route.
Malaysia Airlines and Malingo Airlines also have direct flights on Kuala Lumpur-Kathmandu route.
