The redevelopment of London Bridge railway station takes a massive step forward this August bank holiday with the opening of the first two-thirds of the new concourse, allowing passengers to see for the first time how this major project is progressing.
A vital part of Network Rail’s Railway Upgrade Plan to provide a bigger, better, more reliable railway for passengers and businesses, the redevelopment of London Bridge will improve journeys for passengers using one of the busiest routes into London.
The station is being transformed, creating new platforms for more trains, building a new concourse, and creating a bigger and better station for passengers, as part of the Thameslink Programme.
London Bridge is the fourth busiest station in the country, bringing around 56 million passengers into the city each year. Once the entire project is finished, the station will be equipped to allow more Thameslink trains to run every day, offering better connections than ever before.
The massive concourse will be bigger than the pitch at Wembley once complete and has been under construction beneath the operational railway for the past four years. This summer will be the first time that passengers will get to use its facilities. The entire project will be completed in January 2018.
