Network Rail To Hold Public Consultation Over Future Of Kings Mill No 1 Level Crossing

Published on : Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Network RailNetwork Rail is inviting residents to attend a public consultation event to find out more about its plans for Kings Mill No 1 level crossing.

Network Rail plans to divert the existing bridleway over the railway to a new, ramped bridge which would be situated adjacent to the existing level crossing.

Once that bridge is in place, the present public right of way would be stopped and the level crossing would be closed. Not only would this be safer for residents, it would also remove the need to wait to cross the railway, as residents can use the bridge provided.

To allow this project to take place, Network Rail plans to submit an application under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 for planning permission to construct the bridge.

Network Rail will also require powers under either the Highways Act 1980 or the Transport and Works Act 1992 to divert the bridleway and close the level crossing. An order under the Transport and Works Act would also enable Network Rail to secure land and rights for the purposes of constructing the new bridge.

Stuart Humphreys, senior communications manager at Network Rail, said: “We are committed to improving level crossing safety and we are investing more than £100million across Britain to do this.

“We understand that being able to cross the railway is extremely important to residents. This is why our plans propose to divert the right of way to ensure that people are still able to cross the railway but can do so in a safer way.”

Network Rail is inviting residents to take part in a public consultation event and to find out more about the proposed scheme on Monday, 24 July from 14:00 to 19:00 at Mansfield Civic Centre, Chesterfield Road, Mansfield, NG19 7BH.
