Aer Lingus passengers will flying from the UK and the continental Europe will benefit with the opening of the South Gate area.
There five boarding gates and parking for nine aircraft which is a part of a €100 million upgrade at Dublin airport this year.
Vincent Harrison, the airport’s managing director said that the tremendous growth in passenger numbers in recent years created significant demand for extra boarding gate space and aircraft parking stands. The new facility is expected to meet the requirements in a modern flexible way.
There has been a record 27.4 million passengers in the 11 months to the end of November in the Dublin airport while there was a 65 increase over the same period last year.
Due to the combination of 14 new routes mostly to North America along with an extra capacity on 39 existing services there has been a growth in passenger traffic.
