Since Monday onwards, a brand new ‘Hopper’ ticket system has been introduced in London that has been making bus travel more affordable for Londoners. The ticket, worth £1.50 would permit bus passengers to take another mode of transport absolutely for free. However, passengers need to avail the second form of transport within 60 minutes of taking their first journey.
This facility would be offered to anybody who utilizes the Pay As You Go with Oyster or even contactless payment cards.
Sadiq Khan, mayor of London said that the revised fare would make London bus travel relatively cheaper and more convenient for the residents of London who can now easily travel across the capital. Particularly, the ones with lower income would benefit the most from the new Hopper ticket system.
The mayor said that the bus fares in London have continued to rise for the last eight years and the people who had no other alternative than buses would have had a tougher time had the new system not been introduced.
He also added that the new ticket system would ensure that the 30 million bus journeys that take place every year would be free of charge. Generally, these journeys cost people around £1.50.
From 2018 onwards, travellers who hop around in a train or Tube switching between their tram or bus journeys would also be capable of enjoying the Hopper ticket system.
The Hopper ticket’s launch has won widespread appreciation on the social media platforms.
Previously, the mayor was criticized for being unable to keep his promise to minimize transport fares.
Then, the mayor had promised again that Londoners would not need to pay anything more in 2020 for their travel than they have been paying at present.
