The larger DFDS Seaways vessels can now be moored securely at the Älvsborg Ro-Ro Terminal. At the end of October, work commenced on building new mooring points. With the aid of a helicopter, four new bollards were lifted into place.
Ro-ro vessels are increasing in length and Quay 750 at Älvsborg Ro-Ro was no longer sufficient. With winter approaching and with it strong easterly winds, it will soon be more important than ever for the ships to be moored securely.Fredrik Andersson, project manager at the Port of Gothenburg, says: “Each concrete base will have two bollards, each one capable of coping with a load of 100 tonnes.”
The work took two days. On the first day the bollards were lifted into place and on the second day the bases were casted in concrete. Weather permitting, the work will be completed in the middle of November.
“What remains is the concluding work on a mooring pier for the linesmen. The focus throughout the whole project has been on creating the best working environment possible for them,” says Fredrik Andersson.
