Lauren Cason, Director of Marketing and Communication, New Orleans, speaks exclusively to Travel And Tour World at WTM 2016. Read the full interview here:-
Travel And Tour World: What are the developments in your area in the last 12 months?
Lauren Cason: It was great to host IPW in June. It saw many of our friends and partners from all over the world coming to New Orleans. We are really excited to introduce two direct international flights. One id British Airways to Heathrow, which will launch in March 27, so it will be our first direct flight to Europe. This will make travel to New Orleans and Louisiana much easier and it is also a great way to connect with all over Europe. It is a great direct access to come and experience our food and culture and music, that everyone celebrates. We also have another flight launching in May direct to Frankfurt, which is very exciting for our German market as well. There are lots of great things happening in New Orleans, lots of new developments, we have a new airport being built and lots of new hotels and restaurants.
Travel And Tour World: What do you think is the reason behind this expansion?
Lauren Cason: New Orleans is an exciting place and the Germany and the UK are two of our biggest international markets. There’s a lot of excitement coming from that market, so I think that would be great to be well with these two international markets.
Travel And Tour World: Are you looking at the new areas such as China for new business opportunities?
Lauren Cason: Absolutely. China is an emerging market. We are also concentrating on Australia and Brazil as well. Canada and Mexico has always been a great market for us.
Travel And Tour World: Tell us something exciting about New Orleans.
Lauren Cason: New Orleans has a deep rooted culture that makes us unique. There is a lot of history involved in our culture. We also have French and Spanish influences in our culture.
Travel And Tour World: Tell us about the food culture in New Orleans.
Lauren Cason: We have a very strong culinary scene. We have about 1400 restaurants in New Orleans. These are all standalone restaurants and not chains, that is almost double than the last 10 years. We have a really diverse food scene. You definitely won’t go hungry when you come!
Travel And Tour World: Tell us about the music scene and jazz influence in New Orleans.
Lauren Cason: There are hundreds of music venues around the city. There are also buskers playing music on every street corner and that is among the best music in the country. We also have the influence of all the jazz legends of the world.
