Austrian Airlines is formally inaugurating its new air fare concept for all Austrian and European flights as of October 1, 2015. This means that travelers can book customized tickets starting tomorrow. People will be able to choose among a Business Class category and three Economy Class rates i.e. Light, Classic and Flex, each of which offers different services. Passengers can select the most suitable rate depending on the reason for their journey – whether a pre-booked weekend city getaway, a long-planned family vacation or a business trip in which it may be necessary to change travel plans at any time. In contrast to today’s fares in which customers pay for the entire product regardless of which individual services they take advantage of, they will now only pay for the services they actually make use of.
The various air fare options mainly differ with respect to the free baggage allowance, seat reservations as well as the possibilities to cancel or rebook flights. Standard features of all fares include the flight, carry-on luggage weighing up to 8 kg, a snack and drinks on board, a fixed seat assignment at check-in as well as bonus and status miles. Passengers can individually book additional services on a modular basis such as seats with more legroom, or an upgrade to business class.
Austrian Airlines is introducing the new air fare system together with Lufthansa. The new ticket pricing system has already been in use at Swiss since the end of June, whereas Brussels Airlines launched a new air fare concept featuring various options last year. Tickets for long-haul flights and myHoliday flights remain unaffected by the new air fares.
