Offering whale lovers more luxury and surrounded by a coral lagoon, pristine beaches and lush jungle, Fafa Island Resort, 7km off Tonga’s main island, comprises just 13 fales (bungalows), ensuring privacy and tranquility. The fales are built in traditional Tongan style with high ceilings, coconut thatched walls and wooden shingle roofs and are just a few steps from deserted sandy beaches. A coral reef surrounding the island ensures safe swimming and snorkelling in the clear waters and guests can further explore the island through various walking tracks. Polynesian massages and relaxation are also on offer.
Fafa Island is renowned for its gourmet dishes, prepared using fresh products from the local market, and guests will enjoy meals served from an open air bar and beachfront restaurant, as they look out and watch the whales swim by. All main meals are included as part of the holiday packages.
While Majestic Whale Encounters has taken travellers to Tonga many times before, 2016 will be the first time guests have stayed at the more upmarket Fafa Island as part of their holiday. Majestic Whale Encounter Managing Director, Carmen Ellis, described the new location as one of Tonga’s most idyllic resorts.
Fafa Island will form part of two of Majestic Whale Encounters’ 10-day tours next year – ‘Nature and Love’ and ‘Ocean Souls’, which will run in September, 2016. Both tours offer five days’ cruising and swimming with whales, three nights at Fafa Island Resort and seven nights at Sandy Beach Resort in Ha’apai further north in the Tongan islands, with all main meals, local flights and transfers included. Both tours cost from A$4429 per person, twin-share.
