New services for South West Trains passengers in the West of England start 13th December

South West TrainsSouth West Trains passengers in Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Wiltshire will soon benefit from extra seats, new services and more frequent connections to London with the introduction of an improved timetable from Sunday 13th December.

The increase in services was developed in close partnership with local stakeholders and following extensive consultation with local communities and will transform services for passengers throughout the West of England.

The improvements include:

In addition to the extra services, passengers will also be travelling on a fleet of newly refurbished trains. South West Trains is in the process of refurbishing all of its Class 159 trains with new seating and accessibility improvements. The diesel trains are already the most reliable of their kind in the country and these improvements will provide even more comfortable and pleasant journeys.

Tim Shoveller, Managing Director for South West Trains, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be introducing a much improved timetable for the West of England which transforms the services on offer for many stations and the local communities they serve.

“It includes extra services for the vast majority of stations with improved links to London, a significantly increased frequency of services as well as extra seats at weekends.

“We are introducing direct services for Frome and Bruton to London Waterloo for the first time, doubling the level of service between London and Salisbury on Sundays as well as providing half hourly week day afternoon services to many stations.

“We are also refurbishing our Class 159 trains which run on these services. The first of these are now in service and the rest will follow shortly. They are already the most reliable trains of their type in the country and these improvements will make them even more comfortable and pleasant for passengers.

“The support of our local stakeholders and communities in developing these plans has been fantastic and we’re looking forward to introducing the new services from 13th December.”
