Earlier, it was reported that some news media declared that there will be the new changes regarding the bookings and the charges of Tatkal reservation from 1st July 2017, but the Indian Railways formally announced there will be no changes in the bookings, charges and the cancellation of the tickets.
IRCTC through its website offers online Tatkal reservation facility for the benefit of passengers. The Tatkal facility helps passengers plan their journey at the last moment. Under the Tatkal online booking facility, the passengers can go to IRCTC website and book tickets on ‘first come first served’ basis by paying Tatkal charges.
In this circumstance, the Indian Railways also reiterated the existing Tatkal reservation and cancellation policy.
The booking timings for Tatkal tickets were changed in the year 2015 with booking for AC classes opening at 10:00 AM and for Non-AC classes at 11:00 AM (one day in advance of the actual date of journey excluding the date of journey). There has no change in these timings and the same arrangement is continuing.
Again, there is no change in the refunding of the rules of Tatkal tickets, the Railways confirmed. Under the existing rule of Indian Railways, there is no refund, which will be granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal tickets.
This rule continues to be in operation. A maximum of four passengers per PNR can be booked on Tatkal e-tickets. The Tatkal charges per passenger are in addition to normal tickets. From October 2014, in select trains, a premium tatkal facility was introduced and tickets, which are sold on dynamic pricing. The fares are raised on depending on percentage of berths, which are sold subject to a maximum cap. There is no concession allowed in Tatkal booking. The modification of ticket in any form is not permitted in Tatkal ticket.
