The Burren & Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, which is organizing the ‘GeoparkLIFE: Tourism for Conservation’ conference, has shaped a code of practice tool-kit and a model entailing heritage sites and trails management under its five-year GeoparkLIFE conservation programme, which ends this December.
The allied destination manager guides and supporting tool-kits comprise an online code of practice in terms of sustainable tourism for businesses, an app for keeping an eye on the trails and heritage site management and an online data management tool for planners, managers and communities.
According to the aid project coordinators, the tools were developed in combination with local businesses, communities and conservation agencies, allowing creating balance between tourism development and the necessity for conservation of the North Clare region.
