On Foot Holidays, one of Europe’s leading specialists in self-guided, inn-to-inn walks, has released its prices and route changes for 2016 – and the good news is that fares for all but two of their routes have dropped in price, with some routes decreasing by up to £80 per person.
The reduced prices are the result of the favourable Sterling/Euro rate and coincide with the announcement of several route changes, including the addition of two brand new walking tours – one in the Basque Country, Spain, and the other in the Rila Mountains in Bulgaria.
Many of the route changes are thanks to customer feedback, as the operator aims to maintain the high standards and character of existing routes. One of the tours that has been improved is the six-night self-guided hike through the Karst region of Slovenia in central Europe. Featuring woodlands, meadows and unspoilt villages, the Karst region is also home to various geological formations such as vast cave systems and dramatic mountain ranges. The improved tour begins in the pretty Slovenian capital of Ljubljana before walkers begin their journey and stay in farms that produce their own wine, hams, honey and fruit. The route also features a visit to Predjama Castle – a Renaissance fortress built within a cave – and finishes in the Italian sea port of Trieste, once a key port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and largely untouched to this day.
The Slovenian, six-night, inn-to-inn walk costs from £570 (approximately A$1183 depending on exchange results) per person, twin-share, and includes accommodation, some meals and all luggage transfers, meaning travellers simply carry a day pack. The route is easy-medium, with three to four hours spent walking each day. This is a decrease of £45 per person from 2015’s prices.
Other walks which have been improved include tours of Catalonia and Priorat in Spain and Liguria and Umbria in Italy.Based in the UK and specialising in the ‘art of slow travel’, On Foot Holidays offers walkers around the world 26 self-guided and guided tours across unspoilt areas of Europe for independent travellers who prefer intimate encounters with authentic destinations. Walkers can select their own departure dates and all routes are designed by locals and walked by staff from On Foot Holidays.
