According to the cruise data, more than 250,000 cruise ship passengers visited New Zealand last summer, but 1700 of those stopped in New Plymouth. The main port of New Plymouth, New Zealand is Parat Taranaki.

The largest cruise ship was to visit here last season, the Artania, was confirmed almost three years before it arrived.

New Plymouth is a city located on the foothills of Mount Taranaki and this city is popular for the hosting of many festivals like the annual TSB Bank Festival of Lights, Taranaki Powerco Garden Spectacular, WOMAD and the biennial Taranaki Arts Festival, international rugby, surfing, cricket and tennis matches, annual ITU World Cup Triathlon and the music festivals of Sir Elton John, Jack Johnson, REM, John Farnham and Fleetwood Mac.
