The Pride Parade is a spectacular showcase for the rainbow community and the highlight of Auckland Pride Festival – New Zealand’s biggest and best social and cultural celebration for the rainbow community (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Takatāpui, Fa’afafine, Intersex, Queer) and their friends and families.
The 2016 parade promises to be bigger, brighter and more fun for everyone. It will travel down Ponsonby Road, starting at Three Lamps and making its way to the end point in Western Park.
Auckland’s proudest strip will come alive in a spectacular show of colour and sound with floats from Auckland and across Aotearoa New Zealand.
As always, there will be outrageous costumes, intricate floats and messages of acceptance and inclusiveness, tinged with a hint of the wicked and wild.
The theme for the 2016 Auckland Pride Parade is Stories, Myths & Legends, celebrating narratives and storytelling in all its forms, sharing contemporary experiences, tales, legends and historic milestones.
It also gives rainbow groups and their supporters the opportunity to pass on stories inspired by the 30th anniversary of the 1986 Homosexual Law Reform in New Zealand. Expect leg warmers, sweatbands and the sounds of the 80s to ring out into the night.
The Parade will be held on February 20.
