According to the Newport Daily News reports, the city council voted to support the launch of the Newport Tourism Marketing Management District Wednesday night. Evan Smith, Discover Newport president and CEO set up the program.
Smith explains that for Newport, the program will aid higher number of destination marketing initiatives and permit hoteliers to be present at additional trade shows. Under the proposed plan, for each night, participating hotels will charge around $1 fee to support the imitative. As per calculations, the fee could increase to $338,000 on a yearly basis.
Smith expressed that nine members will make a decision on how to spend the district funds.
Tourism districts have extended from California to the east coast. Mega cities like San Diego and San Francisco have risen millions from “tourism business improvement districts” year-on-year.
